Depth of Field Sample Photos

Depth of Field is The zone (area) of acceptable sharpness in front of and behind the subject on which the lens is focused. Depth of field varies according to focal length of the lens, selected aperture (f-Stop) and shooting distance (distance from the camera to the subject).

In the sample photo we used playing cards and the 1st card is about 12 inches from the camera. We focused on the 6 of diamonds. The cards are about 2.5 inches apart and they are at a slight angle so the number and diamond in the upper corner is visible on each card in each photo. Our Digital photography 101: The Basics and Beyond course explains depth of field in more detail and offer the chance to practice in class or as home work. Depth of Field is demonstrated in our Macro Photography Workshop. Of course we will be happy do demonstrate Depth of Field to students during any course, workshop or photo walk.
